Leatherhead Art Club

Bringing Art to Life for its Members

Welcome to Leatherhead Art Club. We hope you enjoy browsing our website and seeing the various activities the Club has to offer.

Leatherhead Art Club has been running for over 50 years and has a limited membership of 75 members. The Club is very popular and we currently have a waiting list to join.

We welcome anyone who has a passion for Art. The Club contains a mix of beginners and professionals, including members whose work has been accepted by prestigious London galleries such as Bankside and the Mall Galleries, and our inclusive policy means that all members are able to benefit from the wealth of experience and talent on offer within the Club.

From September to the end of April we meet weekly on a Tuesday evening (7.30 pm – 9.30 pm) in the Abraham Dixon Hall at the Leatherhead Institute, 67 High Street, Leatherhead – please see Programmes for details of our Winter and Spring programmes of events.

At these events members benefit from a stimulating programme of -

  • Lectures from specialists in their field
  • Demonstrations from well known artists covering all mediums. These are followed by workshops where  members  try their hand at creating work in a similar style.
  • Life drawing / portraits / still life evenings
  • Critique evenings when members have the chance to receive feedback and advice on their work
We have up-to-date audio and video equipment so that all demonstrations and lectures can be projected on to a large screen for easy viewing.

Visitors are welcome to attend our lecture/demonstration evenings for a small fee

During the summer months from May to the end of August we meet to paint once a week at various outdoor locations – please see Programmes for details.

For our Winter and Spring Programmes, meetings are held on Tuesday evenings in the Abraham Dixon Hall at the Leatherhead Institute, 67 High Street, Leatherhead, KT22 8AH from 7.30 pm to 9.30 pm.

For all workshops please bring protective material for table or floor. For portrait/life drawing sessions please bring easel or draw on your knee

The Summer Programme is open to both members and those on our membership waiting list who would like to paint outdoors over the summer months. The weekly programme has varied days of the week as well as some evening sessions.  These events are organised by club members and we meet in interesting locations with easy access. The highlights are when we meet at club members’ houses to paint in their gardens.

Confirmation and information will be sent every few weeks by email covering access, parking, toilets and, as some members need more guidance than others, suggestions for suitable equipment to take. We try to share cars where possible.

Do come, it's fun!

The Club holds two main exhibitions each year. In the past these have taken place in locations ranging from vacant shops within Leatherhead town centre to the prestigious Denbies Wine Estate near Dorking. We have also exhibited at the beautifully restored Old Chapel at St John's School in Leatherhead. Our regular venues for future exhibitions will be Denbies in the Spring and the Old Chapel in the Autumn.  Our Autumn Exhibition is held in association with the Mole Valley Arts Alive Festival.

All our exhibitions feature a varied selection of members' paintings in a wide range of subjects, both traditional and contemporary in style, at affordable prices.

We also now regularly participate in the Mole Valley programme of events held at the Leatherhead Institute in association with the annual National Heritage Open Days week. For this the Club puts on a small informal exhibition displaying a selection of members' paintings depicting scenes within the Mole Valley.
